Automate BCF export to CSV or JSON with bim

install bim-cli · windows · per-user · no admin
powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command 'iwr -useb https://bimcli.com/install.ps1 -OutFile $env:TEMP\bim-install.ps1; powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File $env:TEMP\bim-install.ps1'

{% set ctaPosition = "top" %} {% include "install-cta.njk" %}

Turn the topics in a BCF issue file into a spreadsheet-ready CSV or JSON file. Filter by status and inspect the archive offline in a local terminal.

Ask your agent

Use this prompt to inspect and export a BCF file:

paste into your AI coding tool
Inspect tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf with bim bcf info, then list its topics and export them to CSV at $env:TEMP\bcf-export-sample.csv. Tell me how many topics were exported and summarize the status counts. Do not modify the source BCF file.

Inspect topics and export a spreadsheet

Start with a summary of the BCF archive:

bim bcf info tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf

This real run against the included three-topic fixture returned:

{"comment_count":0,"file":"bcf-export-sample.bcf","priority_counts":{"High":1,"Low":1,"Normal":1},"project_id":"","project_name":"","status_counts":{"Closed":1,"In Progress":1,"Open":1},"topic_count":3,"type_counts":{"(none)":3},"version":"2.1","viewpoint_count":0}

List topics or filter to a status:

bim bcf topic list tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf
bim bcf topic list tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf --status Open

To inspect one topic, pass its GUID:

bim bcf topic show tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf --topic 11111111-1111-4111-8111-111111111111

Export all topics as CSV or JSON. The CSV columns include GUID, title, status, type, priority, assignee, dates, labels, comments, and viewpoints.

bim bcf export tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf --format csv --out $env:TEMP\bcf-export-sample.csv --force
bim bcf export tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf --format json --out $env:TEMP\bcf-export-sample.json --force

The CSV export of the included fixture began with this header and first row:

guid,title,status,type,priority,assigned_to,creation_date,creation_author,modified_date,due_date,labels,comment_count,viewpoint_count
11111111-1111-4111-8111-111111111111,Check door clearance,Open,,Normal,,2026-11-04T15:41:42Z,bim-cli,,,,0,0

The fixture is tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf; its topic input is tests/fixtures/bcf-export-topics.json. It was created with the same command available for preparing a BCF archive from JSON:

bim bcf create --data tests/fixtures/bcf-export-topics.json --version 2.1 --out tests/fixtures/bcf-export-sample.bcf
