powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command 'iwr -useb https://bimcli.com/install.ps1 -OutFile $env:TEMP\bim-install.ps1; powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File $env:TEMP\bim-install.ps1'
Ask an agent to read the active model's internal origin, project base point and survey point. The command reports their positions and offsets without changing the model.
Copy this prompt into your AI coding tool. Open the model you want to inspect in Revit first.
Check the shared coordinate references in the Revit model that is already open. This command is read-only.Step 1 - install bim-cli if it is not already installed: powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command 'iwr -useb https://bimcli.com/install.ps1 -OutFile $env:TEMP\bim-install.ps1; powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File $env:TEMP\bim-install.ps1'
Step 2 - refresh PATH: pwsh: $env:Path += ";$env:LOCALAPPDATA\bim-cli"
Step 3 - open the model first in Revit, then run: bim revit coords
Explain the internal origin, project base point, survey point and named project locations. Report which reference points are offset from the internal origin, with each delta in feet and metres. Convert angleToTrueNorth from radians to degrees. Include the clipped states and site location when available. Do not claim that this read-only command moved anything or infer who moved a point.
The internal origin is Revit's fixed reference at (0, 0, 0). The project base point is a project reference, often placed near the building for convenient project measurements. The survey point gives the model a real-world context and can be used to align linked or imported models. The active named project location carries the shared-coordinate positioning; a model can contain other named locations too.
deltas.internalToProjectBase and deltas.internalToSurvey give the east-west, north-south and elevation offsets from the internal origin, in feet. A non-zero value means that reference point is offset from the origin. Convert a length from feet to metres by multiplying by 0.3048. These positions show the current relationship; they do not establish what was moved in the past.
projectBasePoint.angleToTrueNorth is in radians. Multiply it by 180 / pi to report degrees. clipped reports the point's current clipped state. In Revit, the clipped setting affects whether moving a point moves the model or moves the point relative to the model; check before making any changes. This command only reads the state. See Autodesk's guides for the project base point and the survey point.
siteLocation reports latitude and longitude in decimal degrees when available, plus the time-zone offset. undetermined lists fields the Revit API could not read; their corresponding values are null. Length fields are always in Revit's internal unit, feet.
This is representative fixture data returned by bim revit coords --mock, not a measurement from a project model:
{"units":"feet","internalOrigin":{"eastWest":0,"northSouth":0,"elevation":0},"projectBasePoint":{"eastWest":0,"northSouth":0,"elevation":0,"angleToTrueNorth":0,"clipped":false},"surveyPoint":{"eastWest":0,"northSouth":0,"elevation":0,"clipped":false},"deltas":{"internalToProjectBase":{"eastWest":0,"northSouth":0,"elevation":0},"internalToSurvey":{"eastWest":0,"northSouth":0,"elevation":0}},"siteLocation":{"latitude":37.7749,"longitude":-122.4194,"timeZone":"-8"},"projectLocations":[{"name":"Project Location","isActive":true}],"undetermined":[]}
The zero offsets in this fixture show coincident reference points. Use the output from the open model for its actual coordinate relationships.
For a model that is not open yet, see opening a Revit model with unresolved links. For running Revit from a terminal, see headless Revit and the Revit CLI guide.
